OUR MISSION

OUR GOALS

1. World Theatre for Every Child We present international theatre works to children and young people in remote areas, ensuring that all children regardless of their location or background have access to professional performances, while supporting their social and emotional development and nurturing their hearts.

2. Sustainable Impact & Environmental Advocacy Building a Legacy: We aren’t just visiting; we’re building. By strengthening ties with local leaders and government ministries, we are working to integrate the arts into national policy and create permanent theatre programs for Mongolian youth. A Movement for Nature: We use the stage to protect our soil. Through performance, we inspire a deep love for the planet, raising vital awareness about climate change and how we can live in harmony with our natural world.

3. Cultural Exchange We create a creative space where local and international artists and professionals can connect, share experiences, and begin meaningful collaborations.

Our Story

We have observed that while theatre for children and young people in Mongolia holds immense potential for growth, there are still limited pathways to reach the international stage. At the same time, access to theatre arts remains unequal, especially for children and youth living in remote regions. From this understanding, we envisioned Wanderlust Mongolia Nomad Theatre Festival as a meaningful and impactful way to bring theatre directly to children wherever they are. As a nomadic theatre, we travel across regions to share international performances, offering more than just artistic experiences. We aim to nurture social and emotional development, while helping young audiences understand the importance of human connection and our relationship with nature. We also see this initiative as an opportunity to connect with other developing countries in Asia, joining voices and creating a pathway toward global recognition through regional collaboration.

The Wanderlust Project begins in Mongolia and will continue in Indonesia and Nepal throughout 2026–2027, fostering international creative exchange and celebrating cultural diversity. Through this journey, we aim to elevate artists to the next level of their professional path, expand audiences, and build a deeper, lasting appreciation for the arts. Most importantly, we are committed to bringing to life the principle of equal access to theatre education for every child. The Wanderlust Festival is the beginning of a shared journey one that brings light to the future of theatre for children and young people in Mongolia and beyond.

ASSITEJ Mongolia

In 2021, a new chapter began for Mongolian youth theatre when ASSITEJ Mongolia joined the global family of ASSITEJ International. This milestone was made possible through the collaboration of the Bamboo Theatre, the Mongolian State Puppet Theatre, and the Arts Council of Mongolia.

Mongolia has a rich heritage of performing arts for young audiences, preserved for decades by our state institutions. However, our international membership has transformed this tradition into a global conversation. Today, our artists are no longer isolated; they are connected to a worldwide network, contributing to international discussions on creativity and youth culture. At its heart, ASSITEJ Mongolia believes that theatre is not a luxury—it is a fundamental cultural right. Our mission is to ensure that every child, whether in the heart of the city or the most remote rural soum, has a seat in the audience.

ORGANIZERBAMBOO THEATRE

Since 2017, Bamboo Theatre for Children and Youth has stood as Mongolia’s first private, interactive theatre dedicated to audiences under the age of 18. Having maintained sustainable operations for nearly a decade, we have reached over 80,000 children and young people as of 2025 through our original productions and successful participation in both domestic and international arts projects.

We believe that performing arts—specifically interactive theatre—plays a vital role in fostering emotional intelligence and creative thinking in children. Bamboo Theatre is uniquely characterized by its commitment to creating works centered around critical social and environmental themes.

Local OrganizerOrkon province, Erdenet

The Wanderlust Festival has been included in the official plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Erdenet City, which features 124 construction projects, 19 types of competitions, and 35 cultural and arts events.

The history of Erdenet began on December 11, 1975, when the Presidium of the People’s Great Khural of the MPR issued a resolution to transition Erdenet Khoroo of Bulgan Province into Erdenet City. Today, it has grown to 26 baghs with a population exceeding 100,000, making it a unique soum—the most populous in Mongolia despite its small land area—as it continues to expand and develop.

WORKSHOPS

Next Generation Residency 2026 in Mongolia

NGP is a 10-day creative residency that will take place between April 11 and April 27, 2026 in Orkhon, Bulgan Province, as part of the Mongolia.

Each day, the festival will visit a new village, bringing live performances to children and communities who may be experiencing theatre for the first time.

While the festival brings performances to local young audiences, NGP 2026 participants will join the tour to research, collaborate, and develop creative ideas that address climate change through children’s theatre.

SUSTAINABILITY

“Wanderlust is more than a theatrical performance for children; it is a promise to our planet. As sustainable nomads, we strive to minimize our environmental footprint while maximizing our impact on the human heart.”

GET INVOLVED

Support us in investing in the future of children.

Mongolia’s first international touring theatre festival for children and youth, WANDERLUST Mongolia, will take place in Orkhon and Bulgan Province from April 14–25, 2026.
The festival brings performances directly to children both in suburban and rural/remote areas, where access to theatre and cultural experiences is often limited. Your support helps make these opportunities possible for young people across the provinces.
If you are able, please follow the link and contribute to this effort to bring theatre to each child in the selected provinces. Every contribution truly makes a difference, and we only have a few days left to reach our goal.
